When asked about a religious practice (fasting), why does Jesus describe how old and new may not be compatible?

Jesus describes it because the old thing tears easily and the new one lasts too much. And he wants to tell us with the fast we can obtain all the things we want because nothing is imposible with Jesus.

What lesson do you think Jesus taught the disciples by cursing the fig tree?

Jesus wanted to teach the disciples that all beings on the earth have a purpose to serve and they, which include us human beings, should make use of our individual resources to help one another but not to stand there and stare at others in need.

Why is it OK with God to pay the one who worked all day the same amount paid to the one who worked only an hour?

I think God is giving us the opportunity to acknowledge that there are things we received but which others deserved more than us. He wants us to go before him and tell him that the amount we received is not fair compared to the others who worked all day and we ourselves should ask him to reduce what we should receive...to be honest and humble.
