1325 entries for this category: The question put to Jesus was believed to trap Jesus, into either supporting Rome or supporting the Jews. Either answer was capable of alienating one side or the other for Jesus. Jesus switched the focus of the question by asking who owned the coins since they were produced by Caesar. Jesus was able to then seperated the earthly value of Caesar and the heavenly value of God which can be done without interfering with each other. This was a marvellous reply. The King is God, the banquet is heaven and the first guests invited were the Jews. The second guests taken from highways were good and bad are the gentiles or ourselves. The guest who did not dress properly could be any of us who do not take the opportunity to become a "Christain" and change their life but want to still hangs onto his /her old ways. The place prepared for "the badly dressed guest" is hell. The Jewish chief priests and Pharisees failed to understand the message of hope and love from Jesus and the heralding of the arrival of Jesus by the Prophets. When the Jews rejected and killed Jesus, God passed the "Good News" to the gentiles. The warning is that if we reject Jesus we will also be rejected by God. What was it about Jesus answer that caused the Pharisees and Herodians to marvel?
