89 entries for this category: Define "Compassion"? Compassion is when you feel for another person who is in pain. The reason for that pain is immaterial, and wether I feel it is warranted is also immaterial. The fact is that this person/s is undergoing a (what is to them) serious problem and I find that compassion is greatest when accompanied by help.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you? I find the Roman way of life very unusual in that for such a domanant and overbearing "kingdom" in the physical sense yet they would allow each group to maintain it's own spiritual identity complete with it's beliefs. I am surprised mainly because any military nation must realise that the domain of the mind is key to controlling the will of a group of people. Yet this appears to be unimportant in the roman mindset even though they were a superiour military force.

Why does Jesus call "Love One Another" a "New" commandment? Old testanent is the basis for the new but the law of the old testament showed man how bad he could be. No matter how hard we try we cannot obey all of Gods laws. The new covenant however did not cancell the previous ones but rather showed us that things of the Spirit is now what will bring us into a "relationship" rather than just obedience to the law. This means that loving one another is an addition that over rules the law and gives importance to the person and not their obedience to a particular group of laws. We now speak of heart, mind, spirit and soul rather than the meanings of written laws. Rembering that this commandment is an addition to the laws and in no way cancells them out.
