约翰所著的耶稣传记——第8章 于是各人都回家去了。耶稣却往橄榄山去。 (8:1) 清早又回到殿里。众百姓都到他那里去,他就坐下教训他们。 (8:2) 文士和法利赛人,带着一个行淫时被拿的妇人来,叫他站在当中。 (8:3) 就对耶稣说,夫子,这妇人是正行淫之时被拿的。 (8:4) 摩西在律法上吩咐我们,把这样的妇人用石头打死。你说该把她怎么样呢? (8:5) 他们说这话,乃试探耶稣,要得着告他的把柄。耶稣却弯着腰用指头在地上画字。 (8:6) 他们还是不住地问他,耶稣就直起腰来,对他们说,你们中间谁是没有罪的,谁就可以先拿石头打她。 (8:7) 于是又弯着腰用指头在地上画字。 (8:8) 他们听见这话,就从老到少一个一个地都出去了。只剩下耶稣一人。还有那妇人仍然站在当中。 (8:9) 耶稣就直起腰来,对她说,妇人,那些人在哪里呢?没有人定你的罪吗? (8:10) 她说,主阿,没有。耶稣说,我也不定你的罪。去吧。从此不要再犯罪了。 (8:11) 耶稣又对众人说,我是世界的光。跟从我的,就不在黑暗里走,必要得着生命的光。 (8:12) 法利赛人对他说,你是为自己作见证。你的见证不真。 (8:13) 耶稣说,我虽然为自己作见证,我的见证还是真的。因我知道我从哪里来,往哪里去。你们却不知道我从哪里来,往哪里去。 (8:14) 你们是以外貌(原文作凭肉身)判断人。我却不判断人。 (8:15) 就是判断人,我的判断也是真的。因为不是我独自在这里,还有差我来的父与我同在。 (8:16) 你们的律法上也记着说,两个人的见证是真的。 (8:17) 我是为自己作见证,还有差我来的父,也是为我作见证。 (8:18) 他们就问他说,你的父在哪里?耶稣回答说,你们不认识我,也不认识我的父。若是认识我,也就认识我的父。 (8:19) 这些话是耶稣在殿里的库房,教训人时所说的。也没有人拿他。因为他的时候还没有到。 (8:20) 耶稣又对他们说,我要去了,你们要找我,并且你们要死在罪中。我所去的地方,你们不能到。 (8:21) 犹太人说,他说我所去的地方,你们不能到,难道他要自尽吗? (8:22) 耶稣对他们说,你们是从下头来的,我是从上头来的。你们是属这世界的,我不是属这世界的。 (8:23) 所以我对你们说,你们要死在罪中,你们若不信我是基督,必要死在罪中。 (8:24) 他们就问他说,你是谁?耶稣对他们说,就是我从起初所告诉你们的。 (8:25) 我有许多事讲论你们,判断你们,但那差我来的是真的。我在他那里所听见的,我就传给世人。 (8:26) 他们不明白耶稣是指着父说的。 (8:27) 所以耶稣说,你们举起人子以后,必知道我是基督,并且知道我没有一件事,是凭着自己作的。我说这些话,乃是照着父所教训我的。 (8:28) 那差我来的,是与我同在。他没有撇下我独自在这里,因为我常作他所喜悦的事。 (8:29) 耶稣说这话的时候,就有许多人信他。 (8:30) 耶稣对信他的犹太人说,你们若常常遵守我的道,就真是我的门徒。 (8:31) 你们必晓得真理,真理必叫你们得以自由。 (8:32) 他们回答说,我们是亚伯拉罕的后裔,从来没有作过谁的奴仆。你怎么说,你们必得自由呢? (8:33) 耶稣回答说,我实实在在地告诉你们。所有犯罪的,就是罪的奴仆。 (8:34) 奴仆不能永远住在家里,儿子是永远住在家里。 (8:35) 所以天父的儿子若叫你们自由,你们就真自由了。 (8:36) 我知道你们是亚伯拉罕的子孙,你们却想要杀我。因为你们心里容不下我的道。 (8:37) 我所说的,是在我父那里看见的。你们所行的,是在你们的父那里听见的。 (8:38) 他们说,我们的父就是亚伯拉罕。耶稣说,你们若是亚伯拉罕的儿子,就必行亚伯拉罕所行的事。 (8:39) 我将在神那里所听见的真理,告诉了你们,现在你们却想要杀我。这不是亚伯拉罕所行的事。 (8:40) 你们是行你们父所行的事。他们说,我们不是从淫乱生的。我们只有一位父就是神。 (8:41) 耶稣说,倘若神是你们的父,你们就必爱我。因为我本是出于神,也是从神而来,并不是由着自己来,乃是他差我来。 (8:42) 你们为什么不明白我的话呢?无非是因你们不能听我的道。 (8:43) 你们是出于你们的父魔鬼,你们父的私欲,你们偏要行,他从起初是杀人的,不守真理。因他心里没有真理,他说谎是出于自己,因他本来是说谎的,也是说谎之人的父。 (8:44) 我将真理告诉你们,你们就因此不信我。 (8:45) 你们中间谁能指证我有罪呢?我既然将真理告诉你们,为什么不信我呢? (8:46) 出于神的,必听神的话。你们不听,因为你们不是出于神。 (8:47) 犹太人回答说,我们说,你是撒玛利亚人,并且是鬼附着的,这话岂不正对吗? (8:48) 耶稣说,我不是鬼附着的。我尊敬我的父,你们倒轻慢我。 (8:49) 我不求自己的荣耀。有一位为我求荣耀定是非的。 (8:50) 我实实在在地告诉你们,人若遵守我的道,就永远不见死。 (8:51) 犹太人对他说,现在我们知道你是鬼附着的。亚伯拉罕死了,众先知也死了。你还说,人若遵守我的道,就永远不尝死味。 (8:52) 难道你比我们的祖宗亚伯拉罕还大吗?他死了,众先知也死了。你将自己当作什么人呢? (8:53) 耶稣回答说,我若荣耀自己,我的荣耀就算不得什么。荣耀我的乃是我的父,就是你们所说是你们的神。 (8:54) 你们未曾认识他。我却认识他。我若说不认识他,我就是说谎的,象你们一样,但我认识他,也遵守他的道。 (8:55) 你们的祖宗亚伯拉罕欢欢喜喜地仰望我的日子。既看见了,就快乐。 (8:56) 犹太人说,你还没有五十岁,岂见过亚伯拉罕呢? ((The earliest and most reliable manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have John 7:53-8:11.)) But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst, they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act. Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such. What then do you say about her?" They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her." Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle. Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more." The Validity of Jesus' Testimony Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life." The Pharisees therefore said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid." Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don't know where I came from, or where I am going. You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one. Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me. It's also written in your law that the testimony of two people is valid. I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me." They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also." Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come. Jesus said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can't come." The Jews therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, 'Where I am going, you can't come?'" He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world. I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM he, you will die in your sins." They said therefore to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world." They didn't understand that he spoke to them about the Father. Jesus therefore said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things. He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn't left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him." As he spoke these things, many believed in him. The Children of Abraham Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." They answered him, "We are Abraham's seed, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, 'You will be made free?'" Jesus answered them, "Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin. A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham's seed, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you. I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father." They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham didn't do this. You do the works of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God." The Children of the Devil Therefore Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven't come of myself, but he sent me. Why don't you understand my speech? Because you can't hear my word. You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn't stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you don't believe me. Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don't hear, because you are not of God." The Claims of Jesus About Himself Then the Jews answered him, "Don't we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?" Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. But I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges. Most certainly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death." Then the Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, 'If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.' Are you greater than our father, Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?" Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God. You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I don't know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad." The Jews therefore said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Most certainly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM." Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus was hidden, and went out of the temple, having gone through the midst of them, and so passed by.
