Notable Aspects
  • Final words of Jesus indicated completion of personal mission
  • Words of witnesses emphasized prominence of Jesus
  • Death (from asphyxiation) was conclusive
  • Simultaneous external events intensified the drama

Words / EventSignificance (Traditional Spiritual Interpretation)
Words: "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." Jesus prays for the executioners who do not understand or believe that Jesus is God.
Words: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus (quoting a line from the Jewish scriptures) cries out at a moment in time when he is not just physically punished, but spiritually separated from God, his Father. God separates Himself from Jesus because all of the evils of mankind are placed on Jesus. This spiritual separation is the heaviest sacrifice which Jesus pays of behalf of mankind, so that mankand does not need to suffer spiritual separation from God.
Words: "It is finished." Once Jesus felt he had borne the penalty for the evils of mankind, he declared his mission as accomplished. This relates to Jesus' earlier mission statement to sacrifice himself for others: "The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Jesus quoted by Matthew 20:28)
Words: "Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." These words, spoken to a thief also being executed with Jesus, indicates Jesus' belief that Jesus would continue to live in paradise (heaven) and that Jesus can choose who will be there with him.
Words: "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." Jesus believes his spirit, not body, now goes to heaven with God.
Event: Earthquake (recorded in Matthew 27:52) Highlights severity of the moment.
Event: Skies Darken (recorded in Matthew 27:45 and Luke 23:44) Highlights severity of the moment.
Event: Temple veil splits in half (recorded in Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:44) This event signified that there is no more division between man and God. In the Jewish temple, a veil blocked the area known as the "holy of holies." It was recognized as a place where God might be present. Only once a year was the chief priest able to enter the area to offer a sacrifice for the sins of the people. The symbolism of the veil being torn in two is that with Jesus paying the penalty for mankind's sins, sacrifices were no longer necessary, and everyone can enter the presence of God.
Event: Spear thrust into Jesus' side (recorded in John 19:34) Roman soldier confirms Jesus is dead.
Statement by witnessing Roman soldier: "Certainly this was a righteous man!" (recorded in Luke 23:47) Jesus' innocence is recognized.
Statement by witnessing Roman soldier: "Truly this was the Son of God." (recorded in Matthew 27:54 and Mark 15:38) Jesus' prominence is recognized.

Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Jesus had to suffer all aspects of pain and suffering in order for the sacrifice to be perfect. After resurrection, he went up to heaven and is seated on the right hand of God and He acts as our intercessor. We can therefore be assured that Jesus can intercede for us to God the Father because He fully understands man`s pain and suffering. In short, Jesus, the only sinless man became the perfect sacrifice by shouldering all kinds of punishment ''physical, emotional, social, spiritual separation from God'' that we sinners deserved.

GOD WILL NEVER LEAVE US BECAUSE JESUS DIED ON A CROSS FOR OUR SINS
Jesus payed the ultimate price for our sins by being separated from his father. This must have been a horrific moment but he did so his children would never be separated from god. Through his stripes we are healed. Although we all die, except for Enoch and Elijah, if we are in Christ, we have the promise of eternal life. He is our sacrifical lamb, in the sight of God. However did you know that in your mother`s womb Jesus Christ and God knew his children. This is called Predestination. Both the genetic lines of the God of Israel, from Abraham and the adopted genetic lines of Jesus Christ have bee predetermined by God. Jesus Christ said if you have seen me you have seen the father. All your hairs on your head are counted by God. He knew when you would be born in this world, the missions you would accomplish and your deaths have been planned by Jehovah ''Yahweh'' the God of Israel. Do not give up hope, God loves you and has plans to make you prosper. Jesus Christ said he came to give his people abundance and only ungodly thieves come to kill and destroy. Hopefully, we will all be reunited with our godly families in heaven. Remember to praise God, give thanks for what you have and count your blessings and obey both God`s law for your families and the nations laws of your lands for freedom. Christ said give to Caesar what is Caesars and give to God what is God`s. This will bring a life of freedom and hope in exile, for those who are persecuted. For those who are persecuted, imprisoned and beaten. God said you and your familes will be blessed because this is what they have done to me.

Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Jesus` sacrifice involved his total being. It involved his thoughts, emotions, body and spirit. These aspects of a person`s life cannot be neatly separated. Instead, they are all connected and part of what make us human. When Jesus becomes a man, he takes on human flesh and some of the limits that come with a body. Only upon death may a person`s spirit, emotions and intellect be freed from the physical body one has in this life. So Jesus suffers in body and in emotions, because this is part of who he is. He cannot simply offer up his life without injury or pain. Also, Jesus` sacrifice is consistent with the idea of sacrifice from the Jewish tabernacle and Temple. In order for sins to be forgiven, a person must offer a sacrifice-- usually an animal of some kind, and the priest would slay the creature. The animal`s blood was shed and it suffered and died. The animal`s life was given as a substitute for the person`s life so the penalty of sin would not be borne by the person seeking forgiveness by God. In a similar way, Jesus gives his life unto death as a substitute for my life and for your life. Ou sins are counted against Him rather than against us. His shed blood pays the price of mankind`s sin. God grants forgiveness to anyone who asks, because the debt of sin has been paid by Jesus for our sake.

Because He took on human flesh as the Son of God. Sin is not just spiritual. It effects us emotionally and physically too.

God separates Himself from Jesus because all of the evils of mankind are placed on Jesus. The above statement expresses the absolute answer to the QUESTION.

Jesus had to represent the human race in order that all the evils of mankind are placed upon him. Jesus is paying the penalty for mankinds sins and therefor has to include both physical and emotional pain. It is what mankind can relate to
