Notable Aspects
  • Final words of Jesus indicated completion of personal mission
  • Words of witnesses emphasized prominence of Jesus
  • Death (from asphyxiation) was conclusive
  • Simultaneous external events intensified the drama

Words / EventSignificance (Traditional Spiritual Interpretation)
Words: "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." Jesus prays for the executioners who do not understand or believe that Jesus is God.
Words: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus (quoting a line from the Jewish scriptures) cries out at a moment in time when he is not just physically punished, but spiritually separated from God, his Father. God separates Himself from Jesus because all of the evils of mankind are placed on Jesus. This spiritual separation is the heaviest sacrifice which Jesus pays of behalf of mankind, so that mankand does not need to suffer spiritual separation from God.
Words: "It is finished." Once Jesus felt he had borne the penalty for the evils of mankind, he declared his mission as accomplished. This relates to Jesus' earlier mission statement to sacrifice himself for others: "The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Jesus quoted by Matthew 20:28)
Words: "Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." These words, spoken to a thief also being executed with Jesus, indicates Jesus' belief that Jesus would continue to live in paradise (heaven) and that Jesus can choose who will be there with him.
Words: "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." Jesus believes his spirit, not body, now goes to heaven with God.
Event: Earthquake (recorded in Matthew 27:52) Highlights severity of the moment.
Event: Skies Darken (recorded in Matthew 27:45 and Luke 23:44) Highlights severity of the moment.
Event: Temple veil splits in half (recorded in Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:44) This event signified that there is no more division between man and God. In the Jewish temple, a veil blocked the area known as the "holy of holies." It was recognized as a place where God might be present. Only once a year was the chief priest able to enter the area to offer a sacrifice for the sins of the people. The symbolism of the veil being torn in two is that with Jesus paying the penalty for mankind's sins, sacrifices were no longer necessary, and everyone can enter the presence of God.
Event: Spear thrust into Jesus' side (recorded in John 19:34) Roman soldier confirms Jesus is dead.
Statement by witnessing Roman soldier: "Certainly this was a righteous man!" (recorded in Luke 23:47) Jesus' innocence is recognized.
Statement by witnessing Roman soldier: "Truly this was the Son of God." (recorded in Matthew 27:54 and Mark 15:38) Jesus' prominence is recognized.

Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Jesus suffered penalty for sin, including physical and emotional pain because that`s the willing of God for him to pass thruogh it.Jesus was aware of what he is going to pass thruogh so that he can bring salvation to mankind.Without the pysical and emotional pain he went thruogh man can not feel the impart of jesus in their life.We look up the physical suffer he receieve and torture and the crucifixion of jesus, we feel sorry for him.In Isaiah 55, we can also see it is the plan of God for him to pass thruogh physical and emotional pain because God said that when he see the pain his only begotten son was going thruogh he was pleased because that is the only way he will redeemed the world.

Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Because Go has such a hatred for sin, that it must be punished. And this was shown on the cross how holy our Holy Father is in that nothing of sin can come near Him. There also had to be blooshed because in Hebrews it says Wtihout the shedding of blood, there is no forgive ness. It also says in Leviticus that The life is in the blood.

I believe we all have to make sacrifices to prove what we are capable of and in my opinion, in this case Jesus is the one who wanted to prove to us and our Father that in a sense of the way He would take the blame. Not to punish us but to save us by Jesus taking all that torture. A very heavy price for our freedom but to BELIEVE and feel the spirit and the everlasting love of our Father.

Jesus shed his precious blood to forgive our sins and curses.Sheding of blood is physical pain and he was not able to speak one word to his mother during his last time when he saw her he thought about the period Jesus stayed with his mother this includes emotional pain. God seperates himself from Jesus because all of the evils of mankind are placed on Jesus. He sacrificed on behalf of mankind So that mankind does not need to suffer spirtual seperation from God.

I think that all people can relate to physical and emotional pain. God sent Jesus to live among us, and we can relate to the pain He suffered in his dying. It is easier for us, and the people who witnessed His execution, to see the pain Jesus was put through. It more clearly demonstrates the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us.

Why did Jesus ` penalty foe sin need to include physical and emtional pain_why not just spiritual separation from God?
First, that`s the plan of our Heavenly God and we shouldnt wonder his plans as He is the Lord He decides and knows and does what`s best for all of us. 2ndly, Jesus was born as flesh human that`s why he suffered physically. And He is the son of God He is related to Him through the spirit that`s why he suffered emotionnally. Also, because He did that so we can can be saved through Him. He is the door to Heaven and the only way to go to heaven is Him. Physical pain symbolises the fact that we are all and only human beings that we will go through hard times as Jesus went through. However, that pain is only in this world. When we die we go through physical pain and then Spiritual pain only if you didnt repent from your sins. Thank you Lord for your forgiveness. Amen
