Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
I don`t think so, but he knew what was going to take place at the temple from being arrested to being tortured and trials to being crucified and coming back to Life ''Resurrection''. Jesus knew that all this had to take place in order for him to redeem us from sin. So that we could be forgiven by God to have eternal life with him in heaven. Thank You! Heavenly Father for sending your son to die on the cross for me. So that I may be forgiven of sin and have eternal life with you in heaven. Jesus is Lord! Amen Ephesians 2: 4-10

No. He was demonistrating the spirit of no compromise. Compromise here is knowing the right thing and not doing it because of fear of fellow men. Peter did not follow Jesus example because of that fear, and ended up denying Jesus. Pilate would have used his authority to free Jesus after seeing no guilt in Him ''Jesus'', but he feared his men, and as well tortured Jesus.

Jesus came to earth to die, that was his major task. To live the life of a man, to be tempted, and endure and die in order to free us from sin and the law. Jesus was sinless and he endured death on the cross so that we can be free by the his blood. he predicted his death, and endured ''was strengthened in the garden of gethsamanie'' and he obeyed the will of God. No man took his life but he gave it up willingly and was dead, he was raised three days later as he had earlier proclaimed. Our Victory in in the victory of Jesus our Lord and Saviour.
