And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed , and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him, saying "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and will deliver Him up to the Gentiles. And they will mock Him and spit upon Him, and scourge Him, and kill Him, and three days later He will rise again."

And they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to cast out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves {for sacrifices}; and He would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple. And he began to teach and say to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a robbers' den."And the chief priests and the scribes heard this, and began seeking how to destroy Him.

Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM (I existed)." Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple." {Jesus was willing to claim to be God, even though He knew it would cause people to want to kill him.}
( John 8:58-59)
Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him. And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew out his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions (72,000) of angels?"
( Matthew 26:50-53)
Pilate (Roman Governor) therefore said to Him, "You do not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?" Jesus answered " You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me up to you has the greater sin." As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him.
