Why did Jesus pray?

Jesus prayed so that His heart would be yielded (surrendered) to God the Father. He prayed to align His will with the will of His Father. He prayed for God to show Him the twelve disciples He should choose. He prayed for them and for each person who would come to know Him.

Jesus prayed talking to His Father as a boy talks to His dad. We see this in His long prayer in the Gospel of John, chapter 17 where He talks plainly and simply to His heavenly Father. Jesus prayed to remain obedient to His Father’s will, to remain surrendered as a lamb.

Jesus prayed for people to be healed, resurrected, for the deliverance of people possessed by demons.

In the New Testament, we see that Jesus prayed continually to be in contact with His Father, to receive comfort and direction from His Father and to ask for the Father to forgive the sins of mankind. See the following verses:

Before going to the cross, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. His disciples were with Him but the fell asleep. According to the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament, "…he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will but as You will'" (Matthew 26:39 NKJV).

Jesus even prayed when He was on the cross: “Father forgiven them, they don’t know what they are doing.”

To whom did Jesus pray?
Jesus prayed directly to His heavenly Father. He prayed anywhere—whether outdoors on a hill, or in a boat. Anywhere. He prayed often. Sometimes He prayed all night or rose up early in the morning to pray.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray beginning, “Our Father in Heaven…” He wants those who know Him to talk directly to the heavenly Father as He did.

Did Jesus pray?
The biography of Jesus as expressed in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament Bible depict Jesus as praying often. He was a man given to prayer. He prayed often. He gave much time to pray. He prayed early in the morning and late at night. Sometimes He prayed all night long such as when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples before His crucifixion.

Jesus prayed alone and with His disciples, but always directly to His heavenly Father.

Why did Jesus teach?
Jesus taught so that the people could know the Father in Heaven. He taught to show them the way. In the Gospel of John chapter 14 verse 6, Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me.” His Word was a lamp showing the way.

Jesus also taught to show mankind how erroneous human thinking can be. He taught to enlighten listeners to eternal truths so that they could know Him and know His Father. He was sent by His Father to teach mankind.

Throughout the New Testament Bible, we see times when Jesus taught to redirect a person’s thinking—such as when He told the rich man to sell all He had and give it to the poor. Other times, He revealed the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of the day (the Pharisees and Sadducees). His Words were as light revealing the darkness in men’s (and women’s) hearts.

Jesus taught that mankind might have eternal life. In the Gospel of John, chapter 17, He told His heavenly Father that He had given eternal Words to the people. He had taught with Words of life to bring them to eternal life.

Jesus taught to bring glory to His Father since everything He did was to glorify His heavenly Father. He spoke the words the Father gave Him to speak. We see this reflected in the Gospel of John chapter 17 where He stated that He had given the people the words the Father had given Him.

The New Testament Bible depicts Jesus as an adult traveling, teaching, preaching, and healing. His travels took him to the countries and towns surrounding Jerusalem, including Samaria, Jordan, Perea, Caperneum. He would have taught in all of these places. Click here for more details:

Jesus also taught in people’s homes. For example He often visited Lazarus, Martha and Mary’s home and taught. We see this in several episodes in the Gospels. On one occasion, Jesus and His disciples were their guests, and Mary sat at Jesus’s feet listening to Jesus’s teaching. (See the Gospel of Luke chapter 10:38-42). Jesus also taught in fields, by trees, on boats, by the sea, in the temple, by a well, on the mount of Olive, on mountaintops, in valleys, and just about everywhere He went.

Did Jesus have any children?
Jesus had no children. He was not married, nor did he have relations with a woman. He did not have sexual relations or encounters of any nature. This is seen in the scriptures of the New Testament and supported by History, ancient scrolls and documents.

Jesus did have – and does have – spiritual children. Those who give their heart to Jesus are His children. Those who invite Him into their lives become His children. They become the children of God the Father and Jesus and His Father are one.

There are fiction stories and films that have been fabricated to make it look as if Jesus was secretly married. These stories claim to be fiction. And Historical facts prove them to be fiction. They have no foundation in truth at all. Clearly, all documents, historical narrations, ancient scrolls and scriptures prove that Jesus lived as a single man.

There were females in His life that took care of Him – probably doing His sowing and cooking for Him from time to time. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of Luke, chapter 8, verse 3. The women “ministered to Jesus.” But He was never married. He spent much of His time alone in prayer or with His 12 disciples of with other people.

What color hair did Jesus have?
The Bible does not tell us precisely what color hair Jesus had. But since Jesus was a Jew, He most likely had dark hair and olive complexion. Many pictures of Jesus depict Him with light hair. They are fictional and inaccurate. Since Jesus looked very ordinary within His culture and country, He would not have had blond hair. His hair was very likely dark like most Hebraic Jews and people of the region where He lived.

What did Jesus look like?
According to both the New and Old Testament Bible Jesus was without beauty, or just plain ordinary. He would have been of average, ordinary, Jewish appearance. He was not necessarily attractive or handsome in any human way. He probably looked like a very ordinary Jewish man. In other words, as far as appearance goes, heads would not turn to look at Him for His beauty. He would not stand out in the crowd. Rather, it was His spiritual charisma, compassion, wisdom, miracles, selflessness and radical statements that drew people to Him.

A relevant and noteworthy verse in the Old Testament Bible is found in Isaiah 53:2:
“…And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him” (NKJV).
The New Testament portrays Jesus’s compassion and love for mankind. His eyes probably reflected that love. His eyes were probably compelling and would have drawn people to Him.

Where is the body of Jesus now?

The body of Jesus cannot be found on earth because it was resurrected and He is now in Heaven with a resurrected body. The New Testament Bible clearly shows that no one will ever find the body or the bones of Jesus on earth.

Jesus said He is the resurrection and the life, according to the Gospel of John chapter 11, verse 35 in the New Testament Bible.

According to the Bible Christians together form the “body of Christ.” Jesus was the Christ so this is relevant to understand where His body is now. In other words, His physical body has been resurrected and is in Heaven in a resurrected state. But His Spirit lives on through the body of believers on earth who have invited Him to be their savior.

This concept can be verified throughout the Bible. Here are some key verses from the Bible on the idea of Jesus’s followers making up the body of Christ today.

Did Jesus work to earn money?
The Bible does not tell whether or not Jesus specifically worked to earn money. We do know that He followed His adopted father, Joesph’s, trade and was a carpenter. Therefore, at that time, He probably earned money.  It is likely then that He worked at different times as a carpenter to earn money.

He did not preach, heal or minister to earn money. There is nothing in the Bible to suggest this.

We know that Jesus trusted His heavenly Father to provide His needs. We do not know specifically if that included working at times once He had entered His full-time ministry.
