The Bible shows that Jesus lived in the Middle East, mostly Israel. This is seen in both the New Testament which historicizes and recounts Jesus’ life, but also in the Old Testament Bible which points to the coming Messiah and shows where He would live. The New Testament Bible shows that when Jesus was a small child He lived with His parents in Egypt where they were escaping Herrod’s army who wanted to kill all little boys under the age of 2. Then He lived in Nazareth with His birth mother, Mary, and His adoptive father, Joseph. He lived in an ordinary, humble home, in poverty.

| Who is Jesus? |
1. Who is Jesus?
Answers to the question of who Jesus is seem almost inexhaustive but we will attempt to answer this question, at least in part, by looking at the Bible, beginning with some claims and comments Jesus made about Himself. To narrow our category still more, let's begin just in the Gospel of John.
What Jesus said of Himself in John's Gospel:
''To Nicodemus the Pharisee'' ?For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life? ''John 3:16''.
''To the Samaritan woman at the well'' ?,Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst,? ''John 4:12:14a''.
?,the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do, for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner,I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me? ''John 5:19,30''.
?,the works which the Father has given me to finish¨the very works that I do¨bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me? ''John 5:36''.
?I have come in my Father's name,? ''John 6:43a''.
?For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world,I am the bread of life. He ho comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst? ''John 6:33,35''.
?,I am the bread which came down from heaven,I am the bread of life,I am the living bread which comes down from heaven? ''John 6:41b,48,51a''.
?,My doctrine is not mine, but His who sent me? ''John 7:16''
?For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me? ''John 6:38''.
?,I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life? ''John 8:12''.
?I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me? ''John 8:18''.
?,I am from above,? ''John 8:23''.
?,nor have I come of Myself, but He sent me? ''John 8:42b''.
?,I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father,I do not seek my own glory? ''John 8:49,50''.
?,Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM? ''John 8:58''.
?,I am the light of the world? ''John 9:5''.
?I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness? ''John 12:46''.
?I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture? ''John 10:9''.
?I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep? ''John 10:11''.
?I am the good shepherd, and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.
As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep? ''John 10:14, 15''.
?,I lay down My life that I may take it again? ''John 10:17b''.
?I and the Father are one? ''John 10:30''.
?,I am the resurrection and the life, He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live? ''John 11:25''.
?,I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself? ''John 12:32''.
?He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me? ''John 12:44, 45''.
?,I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words , has that which judges him¨the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
?For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak? ''John 12:48 - 50''.
?You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am? ''John 13:13''.
?For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you? ''John 13:15''.
?I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me? ''John 14:6''.
?,I am in the Father and the Father in Me,? ''John 14:11''.
?I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser? ''John 15:1''.
?I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father? ''John 16:28 ? prophesying of His death''.
?,the Father is with Me? ''John 16:32b''.
?,I have overcome the world? ''John 16:33b''.
?,I am not of the world? ''John 17:16b''.
?,You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth,? ''John 18:37''.
Therefore, Jesus is:
the Word of God ''John 1'', giver of eternal life, Savior, living water, replica and express image of the Father, truth, life, light, righteous judge, witness of God, executer of God's will, from above, bearing Father's name, I AM, oneness with the Father, teacher and Lord, the door, the good shepherd, the vine, , mediator between God and man, overcomer of the world, not of the world, king, the way to the Father.
What others said of Jesus in John's Gospel:
John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin, said of Jesus:
?,his was He of whom I said He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No-one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him? ''John 1:15-18''.
?,Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world? ''John 1:29''.
?And I have seen Him and testified that this is he Son of God? ''John 1:24''.
The Samaritan woman says of Jesus: ?,Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet? ''John 4:19''.
The Samaritans the woman spoke to said of Jesus: ?,Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world? ''John 4:42''.
What Jesus said of himself in the synoptic Gospels:
?Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls? ''Matthew 11:28, 29''.By: Editors Category: My Blog (2) Comments |

| What kind of attributes did Jesus express? |
The New Testament Bible (and the Old Testament which prophesies of Jesus) depicts many attributes which Jesus expressed. They are too numerous to include in a brief answer. The best way to learn of His attributes is to read the New Testament Bible. Here are some of Jesus’ attributes we find in the Bible: Jesus was the Son of God and the Son of man. As such, Jesus possessed the following attributes: Love, compassion, humility, patience, longsuffering, mercy and mercifulness, graciousness, gentleness, meekness, kindness, holiness, perfection, prayerfulness, submission, obedience, divine anger, joy, peace, sensitivity to others, the ability to read into people thoughts and hearts, spiritual strength, Jesus' attributes are seen in His nature. According to the New Testament Bible, Jesus’s nature was perfect and sinless. He was a person of impeccable (true and perfect) character. But He did have a character. He did not lack the attributes of human nature. He simply lacked sin. Jesus expressed emotions like anyone else, but in the right way. In the New Testament Gospel of John, chapter 11, the Bible records “Jesus wept.” This is the shortest verse in the Bible and shows that Jesus clearly had feelings. Jesus’ nature expressed love, grace, mercy, compassion, kindness, goodness, understanding, righteous just and anger (i.e. He was angry at injustice, hypocrisy, unrighteousness etc.). Jesus reflected the nature of His father. According to I John 4:8 in the New Testament God is Love. Since Jesus was one with God the Father, He too was love and His nature expresses love. Jesus’ nature was divine inasmuch as He was one with His heavenly Father and was God’s son. Jesus did not have a sin nature. | Did Jesus practice or believe in tradition? |
Jesus practiced many Jewish traditions that related to the Old Testament Bible. For example, He ate the Passover Supper. The New Testament Bible suggests that Jesus did believe in certain traditions if they pointed to the Father, to truth. But He did not believe in all traditions. And He did not believe in tradition for tradition’s sake. On the contrary, He often rebuked the religious leaders of the day (Pharisees and Sadducees) for following vain tradition while their hearts were far from God. He also broke some traditions at different times. For example, He was accused of plucking corn on the Sabbath day which was forbidden by law (and thus became traditional). | Was Jesus a man? |
In the New Testament Bible, we learn that Jesus was a man, but He was also God. This is better understood in the letter the Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians, chapter 2. Although Jesus was a man, He was one with God the Father. More info here. Jesus was born as a human baby, and became a man. Nonetheless, He came from outside of this world. Read about it here. | Did Jesus express disappointment? |
According to the New Testament Bible, it is difficult to say if Jesus really expressed disappointment inasmuch as He was one with God the Father. Therefore He knew all things. He did not expect anything from anyone. People are usually disappointed when what they expect does not happen. However, on a human level, one could say that Jesus was disappointed when His own family and people from His community did not receive Him as a man of God. In the Gospel of Mark the Bible says that He was amazed by their lack of faith. Another story depicts a rich young ruler that had come to Jesus so as to follow Him. When this rich ruler expressed he had kept all the commandments to follow Jesus, Jesus told him that he needed to sell all his possessions to follow Jesus. The rich ruler had much wealth and chose not to sell it. He did not choose to follow Jesus. Jesus was saddened by this outcome. This could be seen as disappointment. By: Editors Category: My Blog |

| Did Jesus know hunger or thirst? |
Jesus knew physical hunger and thirst. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4 where Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights. Jesus also thirsted when He was on the cross. Read about it here. When Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman at the well, as seen in the Gospel of John chapter 4, He spoke of satisfied thirst through eternal waters. And He spoke of “having meat to eat that you don’t understand about” when His disciples asked Him if He was hungry. Read about it here. By reading the New Testament Gospels, we know that Jesus ate and drank. Obviously, He knew thirst and hunger. In John 21, He cooked fish for His disciples. | Did Jesus preach the ten commandments? |
Jesus did preach the ten commandments. But He also elaborated on them, clarifying that they are not just outward rules to obey but mirrors of what we are like inside. In other Words, Jesus showed that even if a person could outwardly keep all the commandments, that would not save them. It was not sufficient because, according to Jesus, if a person lusts after another person, this is the same as adultery or fornication or wrongful sex. If a person is angry it’s the same as murder because murder is in the heart. Therefore, when Jesus spoke of the ten commandments, He showed that mankind needs the inner life of God in order to fulfill God’s laws. He helped mankind to see that he (or she) needs help and really needs God’s help in order to fulfill the law. Jesus preached beyond the ten commandments to help mankind see that God looks right into the heart, not just to exterior actions. Jesus teaching shone into men’s hearts. And His teaching on the ten commandments was particularly convicting because He showed the world that without His strength we cannot keep God’s laws. By: Editors Category: My Blog |
