Why was Jesus baptised?
According to the study Bible I use there are 4 reasons for Jesus` baptism. It also marked the beginning of Christ`s messianic ministry. The reasons are; 1'' The first, mentiond here, was to fulfill all righteousness. The baptism indicated that he was concecrated to God and officially approved by him, as esspically shown in the descent of the Holy Spirit, and the words of the Father. All God`s rightous requirements for the Messiah were fully met in Jesus. 2'' At Jesus` baptism John pubicly announced the arrival of the Messiah and the inception of his ministry. 3'' By his baptism Jesus completely identified himself with man`s sin and failure ''though he himself needed no repentance or cleansing from sin.'' becoming our subsitute. 4'' His baptism was an example to his followers. Number 4 comfirms what we all should do, although we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior in our hearts, we have to make a public display of our faith by following Jesus` example in believers baptisim. This information was found in Matthew 3.

Hello dear friends, Now Jesus had to be baptized to saw us the way to go or to take we an example and when you believe and get baptized you recieve the holyspirit and it`s a symbol of Repentence before God.That`s why we see John the baptist telling the people to Repent and get baptized. When you get baptized your sins are washed and you`re renewed and that implies that baptism is a total submission to the lord.So Jesus was baptized to show us what we are suporsed to do.

If John`s baptism was for repentance, then why do you think Jesus was baptized?
Jesus was baptized because although He was without sin, He came to set a perfect example for us and this is God`s Will that we repent of our sins and baptism is the telling of others of our commitment to our Lord and of our new life in Jesus Christ.

If John`s baptism was for repentance, then why do you think Jesus was baptized?
This was true that John baptized people with water for repentance of sins as it is written in the prophets. Because Jesus was baptized by John to complete all righteousness. I baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. And a voice came from heaven: You are my Son, whom I Love; with you I am well pleased. Baptism shows that a person`s sins are washed away. He or she has joined the family of God and is united with Jesus in dying to sin and rising to new life. Jesus is Lord! Amen!

I think the target is to be the example for us , b/c John himself said that I have not to baptise you also before Jesus came to him John said `I am not worthy to stoop down & loosen his sandals .

If John`s baptism was for repentance, then why do you think Jesus was baptized?
I belive he had to be baptized because he was born a man. It explains in Romans 5:12-19 that we as humans are prone to sin and rebel. I belive he was baptized because of the half of him that was human. The half the was prone to sin. It was Jesus showing us that he is human. He is not above the rest of us. He was felsh and blood just as much as you or I.

John the Baptist Prepares the Way

The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the prophets,
"Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
'Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!'"
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins. All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins. John was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. He preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen. I baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit."
