John`s baptism was for repentance, then why was Jesus baptized?
So that he can be born again, not of man but the Spirit.

If John`s baptism was for repentance, then why do you think Jesus was baptized?
To show, outwardly, his obedience to God and to show the people that the scripture was fulfilled, ...the one who was to come, had come...

I believe Jeus did this to stress the impotance of baptism. He is the rabi who teaches us the way we most follow. The fact that these twelve droped what they were doing and left their normal lives to follow Him, is pretty interesting to me.

To provide the teaching opportunity for the taeching of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. Setting the connection between matter and actual Baptism with the Holy Spirit. It`s a practical teaching of the doctrine which then has been formally and officially enunciated by the Church the Magisterium with `technical` terms. That was a clear example clear for anyone however limited their education. The majority of the population then.

If John`s baptism was for repentance, then why do you think Jesus was baptized?
It was not for repentance, because Jesus is sinless. It was not because he needed the holy spirit, because Jesus is God the Son and the Holy Spirit. The baptism of Jesus was an example to show us that if we want to be protected by his Holy Spirit we must forget ourselves, be baptized ''washed clean of our sins'' so that God can use us for the good of mankind.

To complete His repentance, yes he was born sinless but He still had to develop himself. He was, after all, being an example to us and what we are supposed to do, so in that regard it makes sense too.

John the Baptist Prepares the Way
Yes, John`s baptism was for repentance, Jesus was baptized to fulfil the scripture. Remember John only came to prepare the way for His coming. He has to admit the baptised of John first and before corrections. John even stated that ``He baptized in water, but he ''Jesus'' will baptize in the Holy Spirit``.

John the Baptist Prepares the Way

The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the prophets,
"Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
'Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!'"
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins. All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins. John was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. He preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen. I baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit."
