Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
Because they didn`t realize that Jesus was the Christ or the son of God and wanted him crucified. And since the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas. That is why Pilate released Barabbas instead of Jesus. And Pilate saw a disturbance, he took water, and washed his hands and saying, I am innocent of this righteous man blood. Jesus is Lord!

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
The multitude wanted Barabbas released rather than Jesus you see, from the very beginning Pilate could find no fault in Jesus. In this question Pilate was asking them to ask for the release of Jesus. Pilate knew that Jesus was innocent of any wrong doing. He could see right through these accusations of the high priests. He knew that their jealousy of His powerful ministry had caused them to try to get Jesus killed. He knew that Jesus was not guilty of any crime punishable by death. Mark 15:10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy. We see priests who were supposed to be upholding the things of God, who were so puffed up with pride that they were about to destroy the Saviour of the World. High priests were supposed to know the Scriptures, and yet they would not believe that Jesus was Messiah. Mark 15:11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. The Chief priests had a hold on the people. They used their great influence here, and caused the people to cry out for this murderer Barabbas over Jesus. Mark 15:12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do [unto him] whom ye call the King of the Jews? I believe Pilate was seeking every way he could to not kill Jesus. Pilate actually believed Jesus was who He said He was, I believe. Pilate told them, you will have to judge your King yourselves. Mark 15:13 And they cried out again, Crucify him. This cry will ring through all the ages. These two words crucify him changed all of history. It brought death and hell to those who do not believe, and life everlasting for those who do believe. Mark 15:14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. Pilate, through these verses, tried to make the people understand that they were crucifying an innocent man. The people would not listen to Pilate, but listened to these evil priests. What a terrible thing to know that you asked for Jesus to be crucified. They were crying out, but we had our part in this, as well. Every person who ever lived ''except Jesus'' had sin in his life at one time. Our sins helped cause Jesus to be crucified. He was crucified for our sins, so that we might go free. Mark 15:15 And [so] Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged [him], to be crucified. In Matthew 27:24 we read about Pilate`s attitude, Matthew 27:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but [that] rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed [his] hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye [to it]. This was all against the wishes of Pilate. The people spoke, and Pilate allowed this, because it was the will of the people.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
I have often wondered how anyone could choose a murderer over Jesus...the only one without sin! And I think it was because their minds were influenced by the devil. I beleive he thought Jesus would die...he didn`t know about God`s plan to ressurect Jesus...that he was in fact God`s son. I think the people were influenced by evil thoughts and the chief priests were also.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
Honestly I was too wondering why they did it despite Jesus being a rightous man. It was written in the scriptures and will be done. But it gives an idea how evil man is, how jealous man is despite the goodness of a person we tend to pull him down.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
looking at Jesus and Barabbas, making comparisson between the two: Jesus healed, restored life, fed the hungry, taught the multitude did everything righteous to them; and what about Barabbas, he killed their people, raped their daughters, stole their possessions, kidnapped their kids and did all the weakedness to them...so to be honest i really fail to understand why the multitude prefered Barabbas rather than Jesus - this is mistery to me - but i am glad today that He indeed paid the ransom for my sake. thank you!

Why did the multitude want barabbas released rather than Jesus
The chief priests, elders and the multitude thirst for Jesus`s blood, cause they willy want to kill Jesus, cause they think Jesus had blasphemed the Jew`s teaching, when Jesus said that He is the Son of God. Beside that Barabbas is a leader of rebel for rome government. THe people of Jews only think, the Messiah will coming just like their Father David, when David became a King and ruler all the nations. So cause Jesus didn`t want unite with their movement to rebel against rome government, so they accused HIM to death.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
`Salvation at the last minute.` Jesus knew very well it is the right thing to happen to him at the right time did not talk with weakness to defend himself from death against the multitude and Barabas the Thief. Jesus wanted to give Barabas a chance to live by keeping quiet and not saying both of us should die the same death though he knows Barabas is a criminal he wanted him to have time to repent and be saved too. The multitude wanted Barabas released because the elders and the chief priests told them that Jesus blasphemed by calling himself the Christ.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
It is the human nature. Sometimes I feel as if I was there. They cried that out ignorance out of their lack of faith. They cried even for fun. How many times under certain circumstances we just cried out something out stupidity out of something we repent later on. God put Him self in that position for us to take that decision ''us humans'' hoping we will take the right choice. This we do in our everyday life, we hope to take the right decisions but it is until you think hard and feel hard the Holy Spirit. You stop hoping and you start doing, allowing God to take the first place in your life. By this we don`t crucify Jesus, and we start taking the right choice. Let His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
The chief priests and the elders had persuaded the multitudes to demand so. To the multitudes, they were manipulated to believe that Jesus committed a crime against the law of Moses, while Barnabbas committed only a crime against the Roman law. The multitude had a choice, but they literally made the wrong choice.

Jesus Before Pilate

Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
Jesus said to him, "So you say."
When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then Pilate said to him, "Don't you hear how many things they testify against you?"
He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor marveled greatly. Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner, whom they desired. They had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?" For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.
While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him." Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?"
They said, "Barabbas!"
Pilate said to them, "What then shall I do to Jesus, who is called Christ?"
They all said to him, "Let him be crucified!"
But the governor said, "Why? What evil has he done?"
But they cried out exceedingly, saying, "Let him be crucified!"
So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. You see to it."
All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children!"
Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.
