According the biography of Jesus as seen in the New Testament Gospels, we find no precise record of Him paying taxes as such. However, He taught on obedience and would have obeyed the laws of the country. He believed in submitting to the authorities and would thus have paid taxes. When a question about taxes was asked to Jesus, He miraculously plucked a coin out of a fish’s mouth and suggested that one should pay taxes. This was His famous statement on that subject: “Give to Ceasar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s”. By: Editors Category: Can we know God? |

| Did Jesus know hunger or thirst? |
Jesus knew physical hunger and thirst. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4 where Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights. Jesus also thirsted when He was on the cross. Read about it here. When Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman at the well, as seen in the Gospel of John chapter 4, He spoke of satisfied thirst through eternal waters. And He spoke of “having meat to eat that you don’t understand about” when His disciples asked Him if He was hungry. Read about it here. By reading the New Testament Gospels, we know that Jesus ate and drank. Obviously, He knew thirst and hunger. In John 21, He cooked fish for His disciples. By: Editors Category: Can we know God? | Did Jesus preach the ten commandments? |
Jesus did preach the ten commandments. But He also elaborated on them, clarifying that they are not just outward rules to obey but mirrors of what we are like inside. In other Words, Jesus showed that even if a person could outwardly keep all the commandments, that would not save them. It was not sufficient because, according to Jesus, if a person lusts after another person, this is the same as adultery or fornication or wrongful sex. If a person is angry it’s the same as murder because murder is in the heart. Therefore, when Jesus spoke of the ten commandments, He showed that mankind needs the inner life of God in order to fulfill God’s laws. He helped mankind to see that he (or she) needs help and really needs God’s help in order to fulfill the law. Jesus preached beyond the ten commandments to help mankind see that God looks right into the heart, not just to exterior actions. Jesus teaching shone into men’s hearts. And His teaching on the ten commandments was particularly convicting because He showed the world that without His strength we cannot keep God’s laws. By: Editors Category: Can we know God? |

| Did Jesus promote celibacy or marriage? |
According to the sayings of Jesus found in the New Testament Bible -- and in conjunction with the Old Testament and the Jewish culture -- Jesus promoted purity. He encouraged marriage and did not endorse people living together without the commitment of legal marriage. However, He did not promote or favor celibacy over marriage or marriage over celibacy per se. Rather He encouraged people to either be married or be single. He encouraged them to live committed in a marriage relationship or to live singly. He did not endorse people living together. (This is reflected in John’s Gospel chapter 4 when He talked with the Samaritan woman at the well in Samaria). Jesus always encouraged commitment and responsibility in relations – which supports the idea of marriage and fidelity. By: Editors Category: Can we know God? (1) Comments |

| Did Jesus walk on water? |
Yes, Jesus did walk on water. See the account of Jesus walking on the water in the New Testament Gospel of John: When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them. The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing. When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid. But he said to them, "I AM. Don't be afraid." They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going. On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn't entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone. However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn't there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. (John 6:16-24) Jesus also commanded Peter to walk on water which he was able to do as long as he looked at Jesus. When he took his eyes off of Jesus, he began to sink. According the biography of Jesus as seen in the New Testament Gospels, He obeyed the laws of the country. He believed in submitting to the authorities and would thus have been an obedient citizen. He would never have honored something that went against the higher commandments of His heavenly Father.
