How does the Christmas tree fit into Christmas?
The origin of the Christmas tree is pagan. However, many people--especially those who love Jesus--do not use the Christmas tree in a pagan sense. They use it as an opportunity to express many truths about Jesus. For example, the fir trees used for Christmas are evergreen which symbolize everlasting life. And green represents grace. It is by God`s grace that mankind can be saved. The ornaments placed on the tree often represent biblical stories or values, or family heirlooms that represent kinship. Most Christmas trees have a star or angel at the top of them, thus showing either the star that led the wise men to Jesus, or the angels that spoke to the shepherds (or to Mary). The lights represent that Christ is the light of the world and those who love Him are mini lights in the world, reflecting who He is as they obey Him. Thus, although the Christmas tree was originally pagan (see links below), the tradition of a tree has been transformed by many to become part of the celebration of Christ`s glorious birth.
