Material things are not true wealth. The rich man needs to give up his wealth so he can realize that by following Jesus, he can learn about true wealth - forgiveness, love, compassion, etc. We need to build and maintain genuine relationships because relationships can help build and strengthen our own character.

For in order to become a rich man ,you must a stingy person.If not, you must not save a large sum of money.Be miserly,then you will be a rich man.You stock treasure in the Earth but not in the Kingdom of God. There are exceptions today too.

The problem with riches is hanging onto them. The other problems relate to getting more riches. God sent Jesus to set the direction of man with the gospels and his death on the cross.
