The biography of Jesus as expressed in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament Bible depict Jesus as praying often. He was a man given to prayer. He prayed often. He gave much time to pray. He prayed early in the morning and late at night. Sometimes He prayed all night long such as when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples before His crucifixion.
Jesus prayed alone and with His disciples, but always directly to His heavenly Father.

Before going to the cross, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. His disciples were with Him but the fell asleep. According to the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament, "…he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will but as You will'" (Matthew 26:39 NKJV). | How did Jesus pray? |
Jesus prayed directly to His heavenly Father. He prayed anywhere—whether outdoors on a hill, or in a boat. Anywhere. He prayed often. Sometimes He prayed all night or rose up early in the morning to pray. Jesus prayed talking to His Father as a boy talks to His dad. We see this in His long prayer in the Gospel of John, chapter 17 where He talks plainly and simply to His heavenly Father. | Why did Jesus pray? |
Jesus prayed so that His heart would be yielded (surrendered) to God the Father. He prayed to align His will with the will of His Father. He prayed for God to show Him the twelve disciples He should choose. He prayed for them and for each person who would come to know Him. Jesus prayed talking to His Father as a boy talks to His dad. We see this in His long prayer in the Gospel of John, chapter 17 where He talks plainly and simply to His heavenly Father. | Who guarded Jesus tomb? |
A group of Roman guards were assigned by Pilate to watch the tomb where Jesus had been laid. They watched it diligently, taking turns to sleep so that there were always several guards or soldiers watching the tomb at any time. (They were extra diligent in this matter for fear someone would steal Jesus’s body—particularly since He had prophesied that He would rise from the dead). Click here for more info. | Who visited Jesuss grave after His death? |
According to the New Testament Gospels, the first two people to visit Jesus’ grave were Mary Magdalene and also Mary the mother of James and Joses and the mother of Zebedee's sons. | Who first saw Jesus risen? |
According to the New Testament Gospels, a few women were the first to see Jesus risen from the dead. The Gospels vary in saying who was there first; but it was either Mary, or two women named Mary i.e. it was both Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joses who first saw the risen Christ.
