Jesus sends his disciples into the world for what purpose?
Jesus sends his disciples into the world for what purpose?   As Jesus resurected and eventually ascended into heaven, He was able to send us the second Paraclete. (as He was actually the first for us).Created on His likeness, now with the Holy Spirit (after being baptised) we are duty bound to evangalise on His behalf and as He did when He was here on earth fulfil the word of God by revealing the Fatherly love to humanity.

Why did Jesus choose Matthew, a known taxgatherer and a despised man, to be His disciple?
Matthew immediately followed Jesus and other tax collectors followed Matthew.Jesus could read the spirit and thaughts of others. He could also read the thaughts of the Pharisees and also knew that they say one thing and do others.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?
The things that stand out and surprise me most are that Jesus came from such a strict Jewish background, abiding by all the Jewish laws and yet He changed all that with His teachings.  For example the fact that it angered Him to see people selling outside His Fathers templem when it was common practice. That He would talk to everyone alike Jews or Gentiles when the Jews would disassociate themselves from the Gentiles.  That He would speak to woman and have them as his followers and take time to listen to them when in His time they were considered to be of a lower standard than men.  He was so full of love and so determined to teach the ways of His Father even though it went against everything He was brought up with.
