Why do you think Peter denied knowing Jesus? Peter feared being killed by the high priests just like Jesus.
Peter was told by Jesus that he would deny him three times before the rooster crows. Jesus` words have to be fulfilled as said from above.

In this account Jesus healed the servants ear. Why did he do such a seemingly small thing while he was being arrested? Jesus knew the hour of his death as dictated from above for him to be tortured and killed. He said to the multitude that when they were in the temple they did not stretch out hands against him but this is their hour today.
