马可所著的耶稣传记——施洗约翰的死 耶稣的名声传扬出来。希律王听见了，就说，施洗的约翰从死里复活了，所以这些异能由他里面发出来。 (6:14) 但别人说，是以利亚。又有人说，是先知，正像先知中的一位。 (6:15) 希律听见，却说，是我所斩的约翰，他复活了。 (6:16) 先是希律为他兄弟腓力的妻子希罗底的缘故，差人去拿住约翰，锁在监里，因为希律已经娶了那妇人。 (6:17) 约翰曾对希律说，你娶你兄弟的妻子是不合理的。 (6:18) 于是希罗底怀恨他，想要杀他。只是不能。 (6:19) 因为希律知道约翰是义人，是圣人，所以敬畏他，保护他。听他讲论，就多照着行。并且乐意听他。（多照着行有古卷作游移不定） (6:20) 有一天，恰巧是希律的生日，希律摆设筵席，请了大臣和千夫长，并加利利作首领的。 (6:21) 希罗底的女儿进来跳舞，使希律和同席的人都欢喜。王就对女子说，你随意向我求什么，我必给你。 (6:22) 又对她起誓说，随你向我求什么，就是我国的一半，我也必给你。 (6:23) 她就出去，对她母亲说，我可以求什么呢？她母亲说，施洗约翰的头。 (6:24) 她就急忙进去见王，求他说，我愿王立时把施洗约翰的头，放在盘子里给我。 (6:25) 王就甚忧愁。但因他所起的誓，又因同席的人，就不肯推辞。 (6:26) 随即差一个护卫兵，吩咐拿约翰的头来。护卫兵就去在监里斩了约翰， (6:27) 把头放在盘子里，拿来给女子，女子就给她母亲。 (6:28) 约翰的门徒听见了，就来把他的尸首领去，葬在坟墓里。 (6:29) 马可 6:14-29

John the Baptist Beheaded
King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, "John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him." But others said, "It is Elijah." Others said, "It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets." But Herod, when he heard this, said, "This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead." For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married her. For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she couldn't, for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly. Then a convenient day came, that Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you." He swore to her, "Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom." She went out, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" She said, "The head of John the Baptizer." She came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter." The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths, and of his dinner guests, he didn't wish to refuse her. Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring John's head, and he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother. When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb. Mark 6:14-29
