Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?
It is a New commandment because the Law of Moses says: An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth the Old law gives instructions of the punishment for the offender to give justice to the offended. On the other hand, Jesus introduced the commandment Love one another giving emphasis on compassion and mercy. Therefore, it doesn`t matter who the oppressor or the oppressed is. Everyone is asked to love his brother. It does not only ask us to stop hurting each other but goes further by asking us to love or do good to others''and yes, that includes our enemies''... The Old law is not violated but rather revised to a better one. It teaches us to forgive rather than to seek revenge. How then will the oppressed get justice? Our Father, the God of Justice, will take care of that...

Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?
Jesus call Love one another a new commandment because of the gravity of hatred on earth. In the Bible, God said we should love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind and also to love our neighbours as ourselves yet, people hate one another to the extend of killing one another. He knows that it is difficult for people to love others as themselves that is why He call Love one Another a new commandment in order to remind us that we can do so by the Grace of God and by so doing, the world will know that we are His disciples thereby, giving the world the lead on love, which is the greatest commandment of God.

Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?
In the Old Testament, anyone who commits sin was punished and people commiting adultery were stoned. The approach of the people was `an eye a for an eye and a tooth for a tooth`, People hardly learn to love one another. But when Jesus came into this world, He introduced a new principle i.e. to love one another. Before the coming of Jesus, people were taught to love their neighbour and hate their enemies but Jesus modified the rule into forgiving and loving their own enemies, and praying for them` which was totally a new commandment. No one knew this commandment or followed this commandment, so Jesu even set us an example on the cross by forgiving and praying for those who presecuted Him.

Jesus called ?Love one another? a New Commandment to emphasis the Love we should have for one another. As Christians our conduct is proof of whether we love each other, and loving each other is proof that we belong to Christ.

Love One Another
God`s love for us is total, and it reaches out to the entire world! God`s love is long for it covers us for length of our lives, and it is high for it reaches to the height of our celebrations. His love for us is deep for it reaches to the depths of despair and discouragement. God`s love for us is always with us through out all of our experiences in this life. To return the question Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment? For it is written; God is love. whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in Him. 1 John 4: 16 Jesus said ; these things I command you, that you love one another. John 15:17 So; Above all things have fervent love for one another, for Love will cover a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 Also when we live a life filled with love for each other we become filled with the fruit of the spirit.

I think that prior to Jesus` coming, the Jews` adherence to the Old Testament Law ''the 10 Commandments'' had become a legalistic striving to obey the rules and prove their own righteousness. In many cases, their desire to please God was twisted into efforts to justify themselves, to prove they were more righteous than their neighbors, to point out sin in others. In fact, the whole effort became more self-centered than God-centered! Jesus turned the whole thing on its head. He pointed out that it is not about making yourself look more righteous--the way of righteousness is to LOVE others. And to love them is to serve them, to put their good above your own. He said this, and then He did it--with His life, His actions, His death on our behalf. This upset the whole social/religious hierarchy in their day, ''literally and emotionally!''!

Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?
Jesus wanted us to see each other as equals, if we were poor or if we were enemys we were to see each other as brothers not superior to each other in any way.The Ten Commandments taught us alot but they did not teach us how love each other as equals.

"Whatever you want others to do for you, do so for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." ( Matthew 7:12)

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." ( John 13:34)

'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' "This is the great and foremost commandment. "And a second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." ( Matthew 22:37)

Jesus said to Simon Peter a third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Jesus, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Tend My sheep." ( John 21:17)

"If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you." ( John 13:13)

"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward in heaven will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men." ( Luke 6:35)

"Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many." ( Mark 10:43)
