103 entries for this category: | Did Jesus express compassion? |
According to the New Testament Bible, Jesus expressed compassion frequently. He expressed compassion wherever He went. He healed out of compassion. In the New Testament Gospel of John, chapter 11, the Bible records is the shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept.” This story is the record of when one of Jesus’s closest friends, Lazarus. Jesus showed compassion for Lazarus’s family; He resurrected Lazarus (see the Gospel of John, chapter 11). According to the New Testament Gospel of John chapter 8, when some Jewish leaders wanted to stone to death an adulterous woman, Jesus, shoed love to her and said, “ I do not condemn you, go and sin no more”. Jesus was divine compassion incarnate (in human form). He was filled with compassion. He was overflowing with compassion. In His human form, He knew what it was like to suffer and He had compassion for mankind. In His divine form, He knew what it was like to suffer since God knows everything. And God is love therefore He is also compassion. Jesus and God are one so Jesus is the very expression of God’s compassion. Jesus showed the greatest compassion by dying for mankind on the cross. He died to pay for the sins of mankind. By: Editors Category: My Blog (2) Comments |

| Did Jesus teach others to pray? |
Yes, Jesus taught others to pray. In the New Testament. Click here to see Jesus teaching others to pray. And also here. Here is a prayer Jesus taught His disciples recorded in the Gospels in the New Testament: He said to them, "When you pray, say, 'Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on Earth, as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins. for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'" And here is more that Jesus taught His disciples on prayer: He said to them, "Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight, and tell him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,' and he from within will answer and say, 'Don't bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can't get up and give it to you'? I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs. "I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won't give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? Or if he asks for an egg, he won't give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?" (Luke 11:1-13). | How did Jesus pray? |
Jesus prayed directly to His heavenly Father. He prayed anywhere—whether outdoors on a hill, or in a boat. Anywhere. He prayed often. Sometimes He prayed all night or rose up early in the morning to pray. Jesus prayed talking to His Father as a boy talks to His dad. We see this in His long prayer in the Gospel of John, chapter 17 where He talks plainly and simply to His heavenly Father. In the biography of Jesus seen in John’s Gospel in the New Testament, we can read about Jesus praying to God the Father. Click here: http://www.jesuscentral.com/ji/life-of-jesus-ancient/biography-of-jesus-christ/who-is-Jesus-by-john/gospel-of-john-17_6-19.php Before going to the cross, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. His disciples were with Him but the fell asleep. According to the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament, "…he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will but as You will'" (Matthew 26:39 NKJV). Jesus even prayed when He was on the cross: “Father forgiven them, they don’t know what they are doing.” By: Editors Category: My Blog (2) Comments |

| Did Jesus condemn sin? |
Jesus condemned sin but He did not condemn the sinner. He did not condone sin. Sin separates man from God. It is because of mankind being separated from God by sin that Jesus died on the cross. He paid for the sins of mankind by His death on the cross of Calvary. In the Gospel of John, in the New Testament, we read the story an the adulterous woman who was caught in her sin – specifically, caught in adultery. Jesus did not condone her sinful act. But He did forgive it. The law condemned her sin and therefore people condemned her. But Jesus, did not condemn her, as we see in this verse in the Bible: "And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more" (John 8:2-11 NKJV). Click here for an interesting article on this topic. The New Testament Bible shows that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of mankind, so that sin could be forgiven. Without the shedding of His blood, mankind would be perpetually condemned for his sinful acts. Because of Jesus death on the cross, those who choose to make Him their savior can be free from the condemnation of sin. Read here about how Jesus hates sin. By: Editors Category: My Blog |

| Did Jesus condemn stealing? |
The New Testament Bible reveals that Jesus condemned stealing inasmuch as He condemned all sin. However; Jesus showed in His teaching that what a man thinks makes Him a sinner – not just what He does. Jesus condemned sin but loved the sinner. He died for the sins of mankind. Read this story to see what happened to Zacchaeus, the tax collector who stole from -- as seen in the Gospels in the New Testament Bible. When Jesus was dying on the cross, He also forgave the thief on one of the crosses next time Him. He did this because the thief recognized his own sin, and recognized that Jesus was without sin. | Was Jesus a good teacher? |
The New Testament Bible suggests that Jesus was a very good teacher. He taught words of life, the Word of God. Thus He was the teacher of teachers. Jesus taught the words that His heavenly Father gave Him to speak. He did not speak His own thoughts only but He spoke the Words the Father gave Him to speak. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of John, chapter 17. Jesus taught words of life, the Word of God. Thus He was the teacher of teachers. Sometimes the things that Jesus taught offended people because they revealed the depth of wrong thinking in their hearts. In the New Testament Gospel of John chapter 6, verse 66, some people turned back from following Him because they found His sayings hard. Jesus often said, “Let him who has ears hear.” This spoke of the inner understanding. We can have ears but not hear what Jesus is saying. He also taught often in parables, relating truth to the people’s way of life or tradition. Sometimes He explained the parables, such as in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew chapter 13. Other times He did not explain. Many people consider Jesus to be the finest teacher that ever existed. His teachings can be found in the New Testament Bible. Many people still follow Jesus teachings today. By: Editors Category: My Blog (1) Comments |

| Did Jesus promote celibacy or marriage? |
According to the sayings of Jesus found in the New Testament Bible -- and in conjunction with the Old Testament and the Jewish culture -- Jesus promoted purity. He encouraged marriage and did not endorse people living together without the commitment of legal marriage. However, He did not promote or favor celibacy over marriage or marriage over celibacy per se. Rather He encouraged people to either be married or be single. He encouraged them to live committed in a marriage relationship or to live singly. He did not endorse people living together. (This is reflected in John’s Gospel chapter 4 when He talked with the Samaritan woman at the well in Samaria). Jesus always encouraged commitment and responsibility in relations – which supports the idea of marriage and fidelity. By: Editors Category: My Blog (1) Comments |

| Did Jesus believe in the Old Testament? |
Jesus did preach the ten commandments. But He also elaborated on them, clarifying that they are not just outward rules to obey but mirrors of what we are like inside. In other Words, Jesus showed that even if a person could outwardly keep all the commandments, that would not save them. It was not sufficient because, according to Jesus, if a person lusts after another person, this is the same as adultery or fornication or wrongful sex. If a person is angry it’s the same as murder because murder is in the heart. Therefore, when Jesus spoke of the ten commandments, He showed that mankind needs the inner life of God in order to fulfill God’s laws. He helped mankind to see that he (or she) needs help and really needs God’s help in order to fulfill the law. Jesus preached beyond the ten commandments to help mankind see that God looks right into the heart, not just to exterior actions. Jesus teaching shone into men’s hearts. And His teaching on the ten commandments was particularly convicting because He showed the world that without His strength we cannot keep God’s laws. By: Editors Category: My Blog (2) Comments |

| How many disciples did Jesus have? |
Jesus had twelve specific disciples when He was on earth as a man. However, in a sense, all who follow Him obediently are also His disciples. According to the Gospels in the New Testament Bible, the names of the first disciples were: Peter, James, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, Thaddaeus, Simon (later called Peter), and Judas who betrayed him. Read the details in this passage: He went up into the mountain, and called to himself those whom he wanted, and they went to him. He appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach, and to have authority to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter; James the son of Zebedee; John, the brother of James, and he surnamed them Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder; Andrew; Philip, Bartholomew: Matthew; Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus;Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him (Mark 3:13-19).
