FASTING
While JESUS  was walking among them HIS disciples they need not fast because HE was their with them and could tell them all that was on their mind.  but when JESUS left them it was time then to fast so that they could keep the closnest that they had with HIM when HE was present.  fasting cleanses us so that we may hear more clearly.

How is Jesus` way fresh or new compared to old religious practice or tradition?
The three-year ministry of Jesus Christ, culminating in his death and resurrection and his establishment of his church, makes all the difference in the transition from the Old Testament or Covenant to the New Testament or Covenant. In those three short years he ushered in a new era of salvation, although the old era contained the seeds of the new.The Old Covenant is to the New Covenant what promise is to fulfillment. How did, does, and shall Jesus Christ fulfill the promises of the Old Covenant? Christians are commanded to read the Old Testament and are allowed to benefit from it, but they do not take everything in it as final. Christians honor the Old Testament as the Word of God, just as Jesus did. But they read it, ultimately, through the vision of Jesus and the Spirit-inspired authors of the New Testament books and epistles.

Luke`s Biography of Jesus - Jesus Questioned About Fasting
the 1st mention of fasting in the bible is in Judges 20:26, when a vile act by perverted men was enacted, the Israelites went to war over it, God did not grant them victory, twice they were beaten, then they wept before the Lord and fasted until sundown, then He granted them victory. Why? How did they know that this would please Him? And why does it? I have been fasting for 3 days for breakthrough in my career, and what I have noticed is that the hungrier I am, the more I feel like this is how hungry I should be for the Bread of Life and the weaker I get, the more I realise just how weak I am spiritually and that without Him I can do NOTHING! Is this the purpose of fasting?

Jesus Questioned About Fasting

They said to him, "Why do John's disciples often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?"
He said to them, "Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast, while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast in those days." He also told a parable to them. "No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old garment, or else he will tear the new, and also the piece from the new will not match the old. No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved. No man having drunk old wine immediately desires new, for he says, 'The old is better.'"
