The gospel
Jesus had one consistent message, and it is His Good News¨Jesus' Gospel. The word `gospel, ` which is often misunderstood in our day, was a loaded term in Jesus' day. In Israel, when people thought about the Gospel, they recalled verses in the Old Testament like How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, ''that's `gospel`'' , who proclaim salvation, who say to Israel, `Your God reigns!` ''Isaiah 52:7''

So it is with the idea of the `good news.` The proclamation of the gospel was the news that God reigns. The expectation was that it would really come when the Romans would be overthrown, the temples would be rebuilt, and the oppressors would be defeated. It would come with an act of military strength and power. That was the good news they were waiting for. Gospel was initially a loaded word.

It was also a loaded word in the Roman world. Tom Wright has written about this:

  • Euangellian the word for `gospel` or `good news, ` is a regular, technical term referring to the announcement of a great military victory and/or the birth of or accession of an Emperor, a new ruler who is going to bring strength and good news to the Roman world.

    The following is actually an inscription found on a building in the year 9 BC. It's about Caesar Augustus. Listen to the language they used in the Roman world to describe Caesar:

  • The providence which has ordered the whole of our lives, showing concern and zeal, has ordained it the most perfect consummation for human life by giving to it Augustus, by filling him with virtue for doing the work of a benefactor among men and by sending in him, as it were, a savior for us and those who come after us to make war to cease, to create order everywhere, the birthday of the god Augustus was the beginning for the world of the Good News which have come to men through him.

    That's kind of scary language for a human being, isn't it? In the Roman world, good news is synonymous with ?Caesar is lord.? They used that language. Now Jesus comes and says, `I have good news.` But this is going to be different than what most people in Israel thought it would be and different than what most people in the Roman Empire thought it was going to be.

    After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. `The time has come, ` he said. `The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!` ''Mark 1:14-15''

    Good news translates gospel.

    Jesus has come
    Jesus was saying that he was the son of man. Many has come before him but he is the one and only true son of man. That he was sent by God to save us to die for our sins. That is we repent and turn from our evil ways and follow his word that the Kingdom of God is near. That we will have ever lasting life.

    I want know the meaning of Mark 1vs14-20, the calling of the decisples,when Jesus called Peter he left his parents and followed him likewise other of his discieples.Does it mean that we must leave our parents and all we have and follow Jesus so that people will know us as the discieples of Jesus Christ?     What does the Good News of God mean?
    I think it means That God died for us to forgive our sins so we can have eternal life in heaven. I believe the Good News of God represents to us that God is Good and above all, we always will have someone to care and love us.

    The good news of God means that Jesus has come to preach and heal, that man has a savior, and if he will live a christian life, he will be rewarded with life in Heaven.

    What the good news of God means to me.
    Biblicly its all the news from God as well as about God. I feel that the good news is that God loves me so much that he sent Jesus to earth to die for me, so that I might live with him for the rest of eternity. That sounds so simple when put on paper, but it is sooooo much more. It means that I can have a personal relationship with God everyday of my life, I can talk with him anytime I want or need to. I don`t have to go to a Pharisee with an offering. It is so cool to know that he is there all the time. It also means that I have to share the Good News with others.

    Its a chain of freeders. Jesus freed everyonee. called the disciples and they could fish out men out of the sea of sin. Forgiven yes but we must keep ashore. Anyone can be a fishermen in any field of life. And we know that God gifted us with many who can save us. We treasure His word and we can recognise a friend in Jesus. the good news is that we are never alone in marchjing toward Jersualem. One through the Eucharist.

    The good news of God means that even sinners can be saved, if they repent and believe. Every one has a chance to enter the Heavenly Kingdom

    To me, the good news of God is that Jesus Christ came to Earth to save mankind from themselves. Jesus helped to show us the way to live our lives, and that if we confessed our sins to God, we will enter the Kingdom of Heaven one day to be with Him. If we truly believe that Christ was our Savior, and He was the Son of God, then we understand that good news. Believe in Christ, do God`s work here on Earth, and help others to find Christ, and you will be helping to spread the good news of God.

    Now after John was taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News."
    Passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men."
    Immediately they left their nets, and followed him. Going on a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.
