How can we avoid being darnel weeds and instead be children of the Kingdom?
Be ever aware that Satan intends us for his own and wishes to separate us from God. We must be vigilant and always, always put God first in our lives.

Why did Jesus speak to the people in parables, rather than just stating things directly?
A parable is a shell that keeps the Word for the diligent, but keeps it from the slothful. Jesus spoke in parables because the things of God were made more plain to the willingly ignorant and their refusal to understand would seal their eternal fate.

Why did Jesus speak to the people in parables, rather than just stating things directly?
Jesus spoke in parables to illustrate eternal lessons, teaching through relevant, common things of His day, such as farming, fishing, etc. When the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables: 1. He explained that it was for believers to have revealed the mysteries of the Kingdom of God ''Matthew 13:10, 11; 16:17; 1 John 2:27''. 2. And To conceal the meaning from those who were spiritually blind and deaf ''Matthew 13:13''.

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

He set another parable before them, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."
He spoke another parable to them. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened."
Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn't speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,
"I will open my mouth in parables;
I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world."
