Life in God`s power and presence
What is the Gospel? It's that the Kingdom¨life in God's power and in God's presence¨is now available to anybody who wants it. Jesus taught about this all the time, and He said it was the most important thing in all of the world:
  • Don't worry about what you will eat and drink and wear, for people who don't know God run after these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness¨His way of life. ''Matthew 6:31-33''

Let everything else be second place. Everything else will fall into place. Everything else follows after this.

    Jesus said:
  • Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. ''Matthew 6:31''

''Dallas Willard`s paraphrase of this verse is: My advice to you would be, Just don`t worry about anything.''

Jesus` invitation today is to a worry-free life based on the love of the Father.

Since we have God`s promise of support, why do we still worry?
We still do worry because we do not have a strong faith to surrender and freely give our selves to Jesus like a new born, who fully surrenders his/her life to his/her parents.

    First things First

The biggest thing that stands out in this verse to me is "But seek first God's kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." It seems that Jesus is telling us here that we are to put spirtual matters above earthly matters. Make God, His kingdom and His right way of living first. I think of the command "there shall be no other gods before me." When we put our wants, needs, and everything else ahead of seeking God first, in a sense we have made the other stuff gods. Jesus knows what we need to make it here, we have to learn to rest in that truth.

Yes, we worry because we fall short in our belief. We worry because we are human and we are weak. We also worry because Satan plants as many seeds of doubt as he possibly can. `Resist Satan and he will flee from you` is a verse that has often given me peace of mind.

I think we still worry because we are human and it is hard for us to let things go and understand things b/c we do not have the infinite wisdom of the Lord, we are only able to understand things to a certain extent. As Christians, I think we try hard not to worry b/c we believe in the Lord and we know he will help us and we worry less than non believers but we are still only human and are just not capable. I also think it is part of our separation from God b/c of Adam and Eve. When they did the one thing that God told them not to they became conscious of things like worry and nakedness, They were not aware of these things b/c they were pure but when they became corrupted by sin they became aware of these things, so i think it is also part of what changed for the human race when sin corrupted us. My mom always said we cannot and are not suposed to understand things as God does because we are human and God is the Almighty and If we had his understanding how could we understand how important he is to our lives and our salvation.

It is a natural human behaviour. I believe that everything in this world is belong to our Lord. He creates the world. He is a powerful Lord. Nothing is impossible to Him. We must have faith to surrender our worries to Him.

    Do Not Worry

Therefore, I tell you, don't be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food, and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the sky, that they don't sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you of much more value than they?
"Which of you, by being anxious, can add one moment to his lifespan? Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin, yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won't he much more clothe you, you of little faith?
"Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day's own evil is sufficient.
