Jesus promised when he left he would send a counselor to be with the disciples (and us). He is speaking of the Holy Spirit. According to scripture, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are One.
In Acts (2:38 & 39) Peter replied "Repent and be babtized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call.
...has given us the ability and stability to seek the Word, understand that inwhich we receive (its message), and to apply our new understanding in our everyday life. In this we are blessed, for God shall never reveal to us more than our mere mortal minds can handle.
...guides us along as we attempt to walk the path that God has laid before us, serving His purpose.
...was bestowed upon us; those who believe in the life and teachings of Jesus, so we may better ourselves in the way we live, love and communicate God's Word.
According to Jesus, what does it mean to be loved by God?
15If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever¨ 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. The Holy Spirit will teach us the depth things of Christ, and teaches us the knowledge of the true God, whose essential office is to manifest, vindicate, and apply the truth. The Holy Spirit, the Advocate, Councelor, and Instructer, will take away all our doubts, free from all embarrasment, and give you a perfect understanding in all things. In what ways has the Holy Spirit given you insights about Jesus and the truth?
I try to imagine how it must be for Jesus, to be the Son of God and yet have been subjected to the rejection and ridicule, the horrible, unimaginable pain and suffering He endured for our sakes. And yet, amazingly, He still loves us. We are so blessed that HE has faith in US! That is the insight I have from the Holy Spirit about Jesus and the truth. In what ways has the Holy Spirit given you insights about Jesus and the truth?
The Holy Spirit that will lead us in a way that we will know and will be reminded to worship God and Jesus. The Holy Spirit will give us wisdom and be with us. By: Kathleen Terado - February 13, 2007 - Public Category: Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
"If
you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and
he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with
you forever,--the Spirit
of truth, whom the world can't receive; for it doesn't see him, neither
knows him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you.
I will not leave you
orphans. I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the
world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will
live also. In that day
you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. One who has my commandments, and
keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be
loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to
him." Judas (not Iscariot)
said to him, "Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal
yourself to us, and not to the world?"
Jesus answered him,
"If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father
will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him.
He who doesn't love me
doesn't keep my words. The word which you hear isn't mine, but the
Father's who sent me. I
have said these things to you, while still living with you. But the Counselor, the Holy
Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all
things, and will remind you of all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you. My peace
I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart
be troubled, neither let it be fearful. You heard how I told you, 'I go
away, and I come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced,
because I said 'I am going to my Father;' for the Father is greater than
I. Now I have told you
before it happens so that, when it happens, you may believe. I will no more speak much with
you, for the prince of the world comes, and he has nothing in me. But that the world may know that
I love the Father, and as the Father commanded me, even so I do. Arise,
let us go from here.
